In March 2020, the status quo that people had known screeched to halt.
The current state of the world could not have been less prepared
for a global pandemic of this scale.
The evils of capitalism bear its teeth once again to underprivileged folks
who are forced to work under unsafe conditions.
Essential workers lauded for their efforts while being called heroes
but are not given PPE, sick leave, or higher wages.
ICE continues to deport undocumented immigrants.
Prisoners have a much higher rate of contracting COVID-19.
Healthcare is horrendously unaffordable.
People are not adhering to Shelter in Place orders.
Jeff Bezos is on track to being the world's first trillionaire by 2026.
Yet Amazon workers get fired when they attempt to organize for
better work conditions, better pay, and sick leave.
People are dying yet our government looks away.
There is much to worry about.
The world has been fed the idea that capitalism is the norm and that profit over people is the norm
but what we really need in this time of crisis is
human compassion
in the form of wealth distribution and free healthcare,
not performative praise.
